Let’s admit it, the ‘metrosexual man’ may have created a rage but not all men are too excited in getting a pedicure or a facial. In the process of retaining their ‘manliness’, they at times compromise on simple hygiene habits which can irk women to no end. In order to make things simple, we give you a guide with 10 simple hygiene tips men need to follow to get back in our good books.
Keep nails and toes clean
You may not pay much attention to your feet or your nails but many a times, it is the first thing that puts women off. Make sure you cut your nails and keep your feet and hands clean by washing them regularly. You can apply some moisturiser for added benefit.
Shave regularly
Unkempt facial hair can be a turn off and takes away from your physical appearance. Even if you want to grow a beard, make sure you trim it regularly so that you look stylish and not a sadhu.
Bathe to eliminate body odour
No amount of deodorant can make your body odour go away if you don’t bathe regularly. Forget all those titillating advertisements which show women falling for guys with a spray, doesn’t happen in real life! The trick is to take a bath and then use a deodorant. Do not overdo it, it works as a repellant.
Maintain oral hygiene
Brushing isn’t optional! No woman has ever got impressed with a man with bad breath. So make it a habit to brush your teeth twice to not just have fresh breath but also healthy, white teeth. And having a mint before a date or meeting is not a bad idea either.
Trim nose and ear hair
Hair is fine on the head but not peeking out of your nose or ears. Trim it regularly with a pair of scissors or a trimmer especially made for dealing with hair in these areas. Trimming body hair is your choice but hair in these two places isn’t.
Avoid wearing smelly shoes and socks
A stench that can get someone out of a coma is how we would describe smelly shoes and socks. Wearing the same pair of socks for a week is not acceptable. Not only is it unhygienic because of the accumulation of sweat, it makes your shoes and feet as well. Wash them in the night so that they dry by morning. Spray some deodorant or talc in your shoes to avoid the smell.
Wear clean clothes
Men tend to sweat more on an average. This calls for freshly washed and laundered clothes every morning. After wearing a shirt or tee for the entire day, don’t dare to wear it again without washing unless you want us to turn in the opposite direction and run.
Wash your hair
Yes, the weekly grind of washing your hair is as important as any other point on this list. Your scalp and hair attracts dirt and dust and produces oil every day. And if you use hair gel, etc, it can settle on your scalp and hair as well. It is important to get all of it out with a shampoo to have dandruff-free, clean hair.
Get rid of earwax
Yes, many of you are likely to forget or skip this step. If you want your woman to whisper sweet-nothings in your ear, make sure they are free from earwax. Keep ear buds on your shelf so that you remember to clean them out once a week at least.
Fix chapped lips
If there’s one thing women would like to remain soft, it’s your lips. Use a chapstick or a lip balm (there are other flavours apart from strawberry in the market) and apply it on them. You can also apply some moisturiser on areas like elbows and knees which often get dry. If you are too embarrassed to do this in public, apply it at night when no one’s watching.
